Rambha: Mango Dolly in Quick Gun Murugan

Rambha
Rambha's blonde avataar of Mango Dolly in Quick Gun Murugan has raised her status. The specially designed blonde wig (imported from the US) has added to her consierable charms. Rambha was surprised when she learnt that 25 wigs (costing a minor fortune) had been used, but at the end of the shoot, only five were found intact. “Nothing was stolen but many got damaged while canning the action sequences. All part of the movie and expenditure,” said Rambha on a TV show, savouring the experience of enacting the role of Mango Dolly, a heady mix of Hannah Montana and a Barbie doll.

Rambha is hoping for a new innings after QGM, banking on her newfound popularity and hoping for a cult status.

REVIEW: Daddy Cool is uncool

Daddy Cool
Rumour has it that a number of studios are pitching for the desi adaptation of 2009's cult comedy – The Hangover. I sincerely hope it never happens. The reason is simple. Since we Indians are still a bit too guarded about sex-talk - the delightfully, naughty American one-liners will be replaced with crude, lowbrow, crass humour.

And that's exactly the problem with the Hindi remake of Death At A Funeral. Titled Daddy Cool, the movie is a frame-by-frame rehash of the critically acclaimed British comedy. Now the original wasn't an exceptionally funny film. And doesn't merit a must watch rating. But it managed to keep you grinning through its short running time.

Daddy Cool unfortunately grosses you out by the time the end credits roll. Now it might be argued that the original was also high on toilet humour. But in their desi avatar the sequences are presented in a very tasteless manner. Imagine doing an Amercian Pie in Hindi. It's just not the same.

Starring some of Bollywood's most reliable funny men, Daddy Cool is endurable upto the interval. Half way through the film you feel it's like any other mundane comedy that's okay while it lasts. But the quality of houmour goes horribly down hill with every passing minute in the second half.

Of the cast, it's only Suniel Shetty and Aatab Shivdasani who manage to raise some laughs. The rest of the actors just screech double entendres in the name of humour. And like most Bollywood comedies, the emotional moments in the climax are excessively melodramatic. It's sad how the writers completely mess up a decent premise.

Verdict: What works as a sex comedy in one languge, needn't be equally funny in another. This movie is totally uncool.

Karan Johar: We did think of titles other than WAKE UP SID

Karan Johar
Promos of WAKE UP SID have made an instant impression and urban audiences (at the least) have already been sold to the concept, mood, treatment and the flavour of this Karan Johar production. While it is pretty much clear that WAKE UP SID, Bollywood would be seeing Dharma Productions' first quintessential multiplex film; one wonders whether Karan Johar, director Ayan Mukerji and Ranbir Kapoor are also targeting single screens and smaller cities and towns for the film to make a wider impression.

"See, time and again, we kind of tend to make a generalization and divide that so and so film is only for multiplexes or for that matter single screen audiences. Yes, definitely the film is about the angst of urban youngsters, is reflective of their lifestyle and of course comes with associated demography perspective as well. But then that's the world of Sid so we have to present it that way. We have to show that in the promos and we can't fool the audiences, right", says Karan Johar who allowed Ayan Mukerjee a free hand in making the film.

As per Karan, the film is not just about the lead protagonist Sid but also his parents (Anupam Kher, Supriya Pathak).

"The film also talks about the kind of dilemma that parents go through. They have a son at home who is almost grown up and neither can they take all decisions on his behalf nor can they allow him to be let loose. This brings in a quite a lot of emotional energy in the narrative of WAKE UP SID as both sides of the stories are heard", details Karan.

Coming back to the original question around the film being targeted at multiplex audiences, Karan agrees that WAKE UP SID is being perceived as a quintessential multiplex film but in the meanwhile is also hoping that it goes beyond that as well.

"I am not just hoping but also quite positive that the film would cross the boundaries of multiplexes audiences", he says, "The film has all the right ingredients of connecting with larger audiences. Yes, the visual content is such that WAKE UP SID is being perceived as a multiplex film but the subject and the treatment is so strong that it would cut across all segments of audiences. All of us have been a Sid once in our growing up years and it won't be difficult to see a part of us in story which is told through this film."

Didn't he ever contemplate having a non-English or a different title than WAKE UP SID?

Karan nods in agreement, "Yes, we did try to think of a title; something which could perhaps cater to a wider perspective. But then eventually WAKE UP SID resonated with the world of Sid most and we stuck to it. We have it out in open now and it has to be seen how much it eventually manages to entice audiences once the film releases in theaters."

Starring Konkana Sen Sharma along with Rahul Khanna in a special appearance, WAKE UP SID has music by Shankar, Ehsaan and Loy with lyrics by Javed Akhtar. The film is all set for a 2nd October release.

SRK gets Shahid, Priyanka, together for MJ tribute

Shah Rukh Khan
From Shahid Kapoor to Vishal-Shekhar, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan has roped in the biggest names in the business for a music video to pay tribute to the late pop legend Michael Jackson.

Vishal Dadlani of Vishal-Shekhar duo said that it was Shah Rukh's idea to get a tribute rolling for the music legend who passed away on June 25 this year.

"The entire world was upset about his demise and so were Shekhar (Ravjiani) and I. We happened to meet Shah Rukh and he also expressed his thought about doing something that would be befitting the stature of the man who entertained us for decades. This is how the idea around the music video was born," said Vishal.

It was decided that the music video titled "Make it Large - A tribute to Michael Jackson" would be launched Aug 29 to coincide with Jackson's 51st birthday. While Vishal also wrote the lyrics for the song, some of the best singers in the industry - Shankar Mahadevan, Shaan, KK and Shreya Ghoshal - were roped in to sing.

"For the moment, the idea is to launch the music video across all music channels just for one day. It is available on Red Chillies Entertainment website though," said Vishal who is currently holidaying in London.

Directed by Samar Khan, "Make it Large - A tribute to Michael Jackson" is also special since it features Prabhu Deva who is yet again seen at his dancing best.

Also, the video features testimonials on Michael Jackson from Shah Rukh Khan himself along with Shahid Kapoor, Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Katrina Kaif, Anoushka Sharma and Yuvraj Singh.

Vishal and Shekhar would also be allowing free download of the song at their website beginning Aug 29.

"The video wasn't created for making money. It's a tribute and I am sure there are millions out there who would want to grab a copy of the song for themselves. We are more than glad to share our sentiments with the rest of the world," said Vishal.

No Raghu Ram in Roadies!

Raghu Ram
For six years, Raghu Ram has endeared himself to the audiences with his rude and humiliating comments on MTV's reality adventure series "Roadies", but it appears that the brain behind the show, might no longer be a part of its forthcoming season.

"Raghu has been with the show for many years. People know the kind of reactions to expect from him but this time he is not really a part of the show. In fact, having said that, we haven't yet revealed who will be interviewing the contestants. There's a huge surprise lying there... So you never know. It will blow your mind," MTV general manager Ashish Patil told IANS at the launch of the seventh season of the show here Saturday.

The event featured host Rannvijay Singh, VJ Bani, creative director Vivek Bhushan alias Bumpy and Bollywood actor Irrfan Khan - but not Raghu.

Asked about his absence from the event, as well as from the promotional clips of the show, Patil said: "Raghu isn't really a part of the show this time. With every season, we try and do something different and surprise the audience, so this is just a part of it".

Till now, Raghu was known to be the creator of the show and so an integral part of it as well. In the last season, he had joined hands with his identical twin brother Rajiv Laxman to give double trouble to contestants, but had gradually chosen to reduce his presence on the show.

However, it seems now, that he has completely withdrawn from it.

But then, this should not come as a surprise as Raghu had hinted during the sixth season that he might no longer be at the helm of affairs.

Said Patil: "There was one season where we had Gulshan Grover as the bad man, then we had Raghu Ram introduced in the interview rounds, then Raghu and Rajiv. So its just that now we are going to come up with something different and unpredictable."

Entering its seventh year, "Roadies" has not only proved to be one of the most popular annually-held shows on Indian television, but also the longest running reality show. This time, the "Roadies" journey will kick start from the barren lands of Bhuj in Gujarat and will continue to Egypt, Kenya and Tanzania in Africa.

The show will be at its "deadliest and wildest ever" as hopeful contestants will have to pass through a seven round audition process, which will begin online through www.mtvindia.com/roadies.

Irrfan Khan will be seen as a menace to contestants as he will throw open seven twists based on the seven sins - lust, gluttony, greed, sloth, wrath, envy and pride - during the show.

"I'm going to be there to spoil their lives," he said.

The show will go on air in September.

Hatoda gal Bipasha

Bipasha Basu
Since the day Farah Khan’s talk show has started, Bollywood’s stars’ closet has been open for all to awe. Recent on the show were our hot divas, Bipasha Basu and Shilpa Shetty.

Bipasha would be oozing oomph on screens but in real life she is a no-nonsense gal. During her childhood days she was someone who didn’t tolerate boys’ mischief. The actress had said, “I used to keep a stick in my hand and straighten all the colony boys if they acted smart. I used to be very short as a child and I was the monitor in school. When the tall boys would be up to mischief, I'd jump on their back during breaks and pull their hair and beat them up.” She is said to have been carrying Hatoda (hammer) in her big handbag, when she was new to the city.

Bipasha stressed the importance of daughters in family, who unlike the sons are very responsible towards their parents. She said that it is a proud thing to be a ‘Ghar ki beti’.

No wonder, the sexy lady carries such a grace and attitude!

Quick Gun Murugun doesn't make fun of anyone: Rajendra Prasad

Quick Gun Murugun
The movie Quick Gun Murugan - Misadventures of an Indian Cowboy neither makes fun of Tamil thespian Rajnikant nor Hollywood movies, says Rajendra Prasad, who plays the lead in the comedy.

Quick Gun Murugun doesn't make fun of anyone. The characterisation, behaviour, style and even the dialogues are highly individual. It has no resemblance to anyone in particular," said Telugu comedy star Prasad.

"It is only a laugh-riot. The problem is, when it comes to South Indian movies people have heard only about Tamil cinema and Rajnikant and so they are drawing parallels out of nothing... i>Quick Gun Murugun is a full-fledged original film," he added.

Rumour mills were abuzz that certain sequences in the film spoofed Rajnikant and Hollywood films like The Matrix and Terminator.

"Quick Gun Murugan is a cultural mix of characters, particularly from south India. We wanted to show the diversity of our cultures through the movie," said Prasad.

Produced and distributed by Phat Phish Motion Pictures and Fox Star Studios respectively, i>Quick Gun Murugun is releasing in four languages - Hindi, English, Tamil and Telugu.

A "concept comedy" based on Channel V India's 1990s south Indian character - both produced and directed by Shashanka Ghosh, the movie shows Quick Gun as a strict vegetarian who considers it his duty to serve and protect "cows and women".

"My character is involved in an epic battle with arch villain Rice Plate Reddy who wants to convert the world into non-vegetarian," said the actor.

Initially Prasad took the movie offer as a hoax. "To be very honest, when I was approached for the movie, I knew nothing about Shashanka or the character and I thought it was some kind of a prank. I had not seen it ever on TV or anywhere and I did not think it was serious," he said.

"But when I was shown the old footages of Quick Gun from Channel V and the executive producer of the movie explained the concept to me in Telugu? I was really thrilled and happy for the work they did at that time," he added.

Prasad, who started his career in 1977 with film Sneham, has teamed up with Rambha in Quick GunMurugan. "Doing this film has been a great experience for me? it's like graduating. I can say that after 32 years of my career in cinema, I have been blessed to play such a character," he said.

Unlike other actors down south, King of Comedy, as he is fondly called, Prasad doesn't harbour any political dreams. "I am very happy being an actor. I don't want to spoil my happiness by joining politics."

With around five Telugu films in his kitty, the veteran is keeping his fingers crossed for Bollywood too. "If I get an opportunity to work in Bollywood, I'll definitely take it. However I think it depends more on the reaction to i>Quick Gun Murugun now than anything else. In Hyderabad by god's blessings there are always many films for me to do," he added.

Charu Sharma: Salman Khan is a 'boon' For IPL

Charu Sharma
Mumbai: There have been millions of speculations around the globe about Indian cricket and Bollywood which now seem to be the faces of a coin. The future seems to be more prolific as cricket and Bollywood might go hand in hand.

In an interview ex cricketer and Commentator Charu Sharma said, "Cricket is played in the field. What happens off the pitch is not cricket. We might go over with the assumptions on this issue, we might discuss it but it's not truly cricket not even a part of it.

A cricketer is a cricketer he/she is not concerned about what is happening off the field and they are not at all concerened about which actor or actress is cheering at the stands. All that's on a cricketer's mind is the game and his willingness to beat the opposition. Salman Khan is a mega Bollywood star; his involvement will definitely add value to IPL."

"The only unsafe obsession about Bollywood's and Corporate house's association with sports is that sometimes the owners of these teams do not know much about the game.

Their personal pride over takes their good sense and they start putting unreasonable pressure on the team. But Salman Khan and his family- his father Salim and brothers Arbaaz and Sohail are big cricket fans. Salman is sure to add to the entertainment factor associated with T20," added Charu

Problems galore for Prabhu Deva’s Wanted

Prabhu Deva
The Prabhu Deva directed Hindi version of Pokkiri is running into deep trouble with a financier alleging that the producers of the film, Sri Devi, Boney Kapoor and his father Surendra Kapoor have cheated him to a tune of Rs. 7.93 crores.

According to the petitioner, the actress, her husband and father in law owned three production houses, Sri Devi Enterprises, Narasimma Enterprises and S.K. Films Enterprises. The trio had borrowed a huge amount from him and did not pay up the amount that was due to him. On repeated requests, they allegedly told the petitioner that it would be settled before the release of Wanted.

With the impending release, the petitioner has obtained a stay for releasing the film. The High Court of Madras has ordered the trio to furnish a security and not to release the film till further orders.

Wanted has Salman Khan and Ayesha Takia in the lead roles.

I would love to work with Shah Rukh again: Parzaan Dastur

Parzaan Dastur
He popularised the line 'Tussi na jao' (Please don't go) as the cute Sikh kid in Karan Johar's 1998 hit 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hain'. Parzaan Dastur, now 17, plays the protagonist in new film 'Sikandar' and says he would love to take up acting as a career and work with Shah Rukh Khan again.

'Acting is something I have been doing for long. I have loved doing it and enjoyed every moment of it. But that time (during 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hain') it was a hobby. If it turns out to be a career, I will love it because I just enjoy being in front of the camera. I enjoy taking commands from the director, performing and getting the appreciation,' Parzaan told IANS in an interview.

Parzaan wants to act with Shah Rukh and Kajol again. They played the lead in 'Kuch Kuch...'.

'I would love to work with Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol again. 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' was an experience of a lifetime and I would love to have that again,' said the teenager who is currently studying management in a Mumbai college.

'Apart from that I want to work with a legend like Amitabh Bachchan. Any young aspiring actor would love to work with him simply because you get to learn so many things off the sets from him,' he added.

As a child actor, Parzaan has also featured in other films like 'Mohabbatein', 'Zubeidaa' and 'Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham'. He was also seen in the award-winning film 'Parzania' (2007), which was about a boy who goes missing during the 2002 Gujarat riots.

His latest 'Sikandar', which released last week, revolves around a boy in the troubled Kashmir Valley who wants to make it big in football, but his life changes when he finds a gun lying on the road.

The film, shot entirely in Kashmir and directed by Piyush Jha, also stars Ayesha Kapoor, Sanjay Suri and R. Madhavan.

Parzaan believes that 'Sikandar' helped him mature as an actor.

'With 'Sikandar' I became more mature. I understood what acting is all about. What does it mean to get into the character and how can one adopt a role. This film took me way ahead as far as acting is concerned,' said the youngster who has also worked in many commercial advertisements.

He has found a good friend in Ayesha who has won awards for her performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali's 'Black' (2005).

'We had 30-35 days in Kashmir, working together. It's been great working with Ayesha. She is a brilliant actress and apart from that she has worked very hard on the film.

'She can't speak Hindi, but she had to speak the language for the movie... so the amount of hard work she has put in to portray the character, to say her lines properly with the correct emotions, is just great. She has become a really good friend,' said Parzaan.

Today I'm alive, just because of Shahid: Rakhi

Rakhi Sawant
Trash talk Queen Miss. Sawant is mulling over Shahid Kapoor in her upcoming flick Dil Bole Hadippa. The reason behind all the hulla-gulla is that Shahid had saved her life during the shoot of a song sequence Discowale Kishko…

In an interview Rakhi stated, “Today I’m alive, and that is just because of Shahid. I was about to meet with a fatal accident when he came to my rescue.”

Elaborating on the incident she chirps, “I was standing near a light stand after the shoot of a dance sequence, when suddenly Shahid sipping his coffee came up to me.

He just asked me to move aside and secured the light stand; I never noticed, but the stand was rickety and that light was almost dropping down on me, but thank god Shahid came in at the right time for my rescue.”

“He is a really nice guy and it was fun to work with him. I also enjoyed working with a big star like Rani Mukherjee, and also told her that I am a big fan of her, ” she concludes.

Well we wonder with Rakhi so charmed by her new prince charming, what happens to the ‘chosen one’ Elesh.

When Anupam Kher met Woody Allen

Anupam Kher
Anupam Kher is one happy man these days and for all the reasons in the world. He is fresh with the memories of not just meeting, but also working with, the legendary Woody Allen, with whom he is doing an untitled film which also stars the Slumdog sensation Freida Pinto. Anupam plays Freida's father in this film. Anupam describes Woody Allen as someone who is focused and very vocal about his thoughts.

The moment Anupam saw him, he immediately got flashes of scenes from the cult films like Annie Hall, Crimes and Misdemeanors and Manhattan. Recalling his priceless meeting with Allen, Anupam says that when he spoke to Allen about the change that Indian cinema is undergoing, Allen, on his part, very simply replied that such a thing can happen only when the audience changes. At this, Allen also became nostalgic about his early years spent in the big city of New York, when he watched films (read 'masterpieces') of the eternal greats Satyajit Ray and Kurosawa.

Since Anupam did not want to miss the lifetime opportunity of meeting Woody Allen, he immediately captured all his memories in his camera. Not just that, he also gifted Allen copies of Ramayana and Bhagwad Gita. Speaking to us, Anupam Kher said, "I will always treasure the books that Woody Allen gave me. One of the books happens to be 'Without Feathers'. Allen not just gifted me the books, he also wrote 'For Anupam, Lots of adulation, Woody Allen."

We are sure that this is one meeting that Anupam Kher will treasure for rest of his life.

Shahid takes care of Priyanka's diet

Shahid Kapoor
By now everyone knows that Shahid Kapoor is a vegetarian and a sexy one at that. Those who didn’t know found out recently when he won the Sexiest Vegetarian poll conducted by PETA Asia Pacific. So it was only natural to be shocked when he ordered chicken sandwiches at a recently held get-together.

Shahid, Priyanka and Vishal have been busy basking in the success of Kaminey and there are various success parties happening every other day. On one of these occasions Shahid requested the waiter for some chicken sandwiches.

Shahid's team was thoroughly confused, so was the host, right down to the caterers. All the double and triple checking, discussions and confusion delayed the order and finally it took one hour to get the sandwiches.

When the waiter took the chicken sandwiches to Shahid, he found Shahid almost finishing his vegetarian meal that he eats daily. This is when Vishal Bhardwaj and Priyanka joined him and it was discovered that the much discussed chicken sandwiches were in fact ordered for Vishal and Priyanka, not for Shahid.

So Shahid fans need not worry. Shahid has been a vegetarian for the last eight years and intends to stay that way too.

Sari-clad Bipasha Basu in bong films

Bipasha Basu
Mumbai: Bipasha Basu has always done mainstream commercial films but now the diva has decided to take jump into non-commercial films. Bips would now be seen in films like Pankh, Lamhaa, Sob Charitro Kalponik, all of these are non-commercial films.

Bipasha would be donning the character of a Kashmiri girl soon. For director Rahul Dholakia’s film Lamhaa, our modern diva becomes a coy Kashmiri girl.

In Pankh, Bipasha shed her western clothes and goes for a typical Bengali woman with lovely sarees.

In Rituparno Ghosh’s Sob Charitro Kalponik, again the bombshell becomes a typical Bengali woman. Bipasha says “Ritu-da asked me to get into the typical Bengali woman mode for the character with the sari-and-blouse and body language, etc… it was not at all difficult for me as I have grown up watching my mother like that.”

To speak in Bong, Bipasha again didn’t have any problem as she says “For the language, it was very easy because it’s definitely the Bengali I speak at home and understand. Apart from that there is also a lot of English in the film as my character speaks both”.

Kaminey in trouble over 'Apna Haath Jagannath'

Kaminey
MUMBAI: The recently released Kaminey is in trouble. Puri Shankaracharya Nishchalanand Saraswati of Puri has demanded a ban on the film for denigrating Lord Jagannath.

The protests against the movie started soon after its release on Friday and has spread to other parts of the state with people burning posters and staging demonstrations at various places

The seer strongly objected to a scene in the movie where the phrase - 'Apna Haath Jagannath' - is written above a poster showing a scantily clad woman on the wall of a public toilet. He said that the scene has shown Lord Jagannath in poor light and that the people all over the country should protest it.

The police had filed a case against UTV, the producer of the film, under Section 295A (hurting religious sentiments) of the Indian Penal Code following complaint filed by a religious outfit and the administration of the Lord Jagannath temple at Puri has also decided to write to the producer of the film to remove the objectionable scene.

The film has been directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and stars Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra in the lead roles. While filing this story Bhardwaj was unavailable for comment as he is in Mussorie at the moment working on his next script. However a source revealed that UTV is sorting out the matter and that the lawyers are working on it.

Security has been stepped up at theatres across the state where the movie is being screened.

Arbaaz Khan: I realize the importance of big banners

Arbaaz Khan
Over the year gone by, Arbaaz Khan had quite a few of his films releasing in quick succession. MERE KHWABON MEIN JO AAYE, JAI VEERU, THE STONEMAN RETURNS, HELLO, FASHION, JAANE TU...YA JAANE NAA, THODA LIFE THODA MAGIC, WOODSTOCK VILLA, are a few of them. However, most of them have been delayed films that have only released in the recent past; hence giving an impression that Arbaaz is on a signing spree.

"Arrey that was all my backlog and I am glad I am through with it now", says Arbaaz with a sigh of relief, "I am going to be very selective from here on and you won't be seeing me in any random films."

Arbaaz is also quite sure that he would be choosing projects carefully only after ascertaining the credentials of the producer.

"This is why working with established banners has a meaning", says Arbaaz who has become wiser with time, "Earlier I used to feel that why should one run after a banner? Now I think ki banner aise hi faaltu mein nahi ban jaate. If there is a Tata or a Colgate or a Coke or a Yash Raj Films; they have all reached the stage that they are in because they built a brand around them. It takes time and lots of hard work and one should keep that in mind before formulating an opinion around the entire banner thing."

Seen this week in KISAAN, he also understands that at the end of the day, the banner is responsible for it's own worth in the market and hence higher the banner, the harder it would work to maintain its reputation.

"This is why the biggest of the banners still rule in the country because they have earned that stance and the respect. People out there at the top hold themselves responsible for their banner because they know that if their film fails, they all collectively fail."

No wonder, he has now opened his own production house and would be making his debut film as a producer under this banner. Titled DABANNG, the film would star Salman Khan, Arbaaz Khan, Sonakshi Sinha and Sonu Sood. The film is being directed by first timer Abhinav Kashyap.

Bebo gives it up for Aamir!

Kareena Kapoor
Don’t make any plans for Kareena Kapoor’s birthday this year.

The actress who turns 29 on September 21, is going to be busy on her film 3 Idiots with Aamir Khan, so bechara Saif Ali Khan will have to rework whatever surprise he had in mind for his Bebo.

Originally, she had wanted to spend time with Saif, mother Babita, sister Karisma and niece Samaira around her birthday... but tragedy struck Aamir’s close and happy little khandaan, and Kareena stepped to the rescue.

You know that Aamir’s wife Kiran Rao suffered a miscarriage earlier this month, and that Aamir promised Kiran he would take time off from 3 Idiots to help her recuperate from the trauma.

What Aamir didn’t realise when he made that emotional commitment was that he had given dates with Kareena to shoot a song in Mumbai during the very same period. Hesitantly, he called up his co-star and asked if she would reorganise her own diary to accommodate him at another time. And Kareena agreed, at the cost of her own birthday plans, because she realised how big Kiran’s trauma was.

Now Kareena and Aamir will shoot the song from September 25 to October 2 in Mumbai. She was in Switzerland all the while and is expected back in Mumbai today. While Aamir is in Europe. The actor has left behind his two cell phones and prefers to be incommunicado for the period that he spends with Kiran. He wants nothing to come in the way of her recuperation.

Rahul Bose ready for Kollywood

Rahul Bose
Art film lovers don’t need an introduction for Rahul Bose. He is known for his unforgettable roles in films such as 'Pyar Ke Side Effects', 'Jhankar Beats', 'Mr and Mrs Iyer' and 'Everybody says I am Fine'.

Time Asia magazine named him 'the superstar of Indian art house cinema' for his contributions to parallel cinema through films like 'English', 'August' and 'Mr and Mrs Iyer'.

This Bollywood actor-cum-social activist was recently in Chennai for the campaign of India's largest design for giving school contest. “If good scripts, directors and film crew are there I am ready to act in any language films, whether is Tamil or Italian,” he says.

Saying that he is currently working in four projects, including Aparna Sen's 'Japanese Wife', a thriller, a comedy and a romance, the actor says “films can make sensible people more sensible and that sense of sensibility and compassion will make you a better human being.”

“Films have a small impact on society. It can be negative or positive. But the impact is very little,” he adds.

I love being called sexy: Bipasha

Bipasha Basu
Bollywood bombshell Bipasha Basu may be playing the deglamourised role of a housewife in her first Bengali movie but the actress says she is happy with the 'sexy' tag as a girl-next-door look never interested her.

"I love being sexy and I would be happy if people call me sexy even when I turn 100. I would love to be called a sexy grandmother. The tag has never bothered me," Bipasha, who has been named one of the sexiest celebrities of Asia, said in an interview.

"If a woman says she does not want to be called attractive then she is foolish. I like being exclusive, the girl-next-door image has never interested me. It is too boring," the actress, who started her Bollywood career with bold characters in Jism and Raaz, says.

She, however, believes 'sexiness' is not only related to having a good body. "Sexiness is not only about having a great body. It is about how you carry yourself, your confidence, your self respect, these help you look attractive. I am sexy with a mind. It is a complete package."

The Bengali beauty is portraying the character of Radhika in Rituparno Ghosh's movie Shob Charitro Kalponik, which deals with love and loss through the story of a woman, who goes on a path of self discovery after the death of her poet-husband.

The film, which released this Friday, sees Bipasha depicting the role of a mature woman in a saree - a character which does not come her way in the industry very often. "Being a Bengali, I always wanted to do a film in my native language. My parents have grown up watching Bengali cinema and it was my father's wish that I do a Bengali film since I came into acting," she says about her first movie in the language.

The film, also starring Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee, has already garnered critical appreciation and has been screened at the prestigious Durban Film Festival recently.

"It is a very deep and matured role; that is why I was attracted to the character. It is multi-layered. I have never done something like that before. Unfortunately, you don't come across such characters in Hindi cinema because the audience demand is different here," says Bipasha.

The actress, however, is upset that she did not get to dub the movie in her own voice as Ghosh got used another artiste.

A lot has been said about the incident but Bipasha downplays it by saying, "I was not upset with Rituparno but rather with the whole set-up. After shooting for the movie I came back to Bombay to pursue to the dubbing but I got to know from another journalist that the dubbing has already been done. Obviously, it upset me.

"...I have a very distinctive voice and I am sure I would have added nuances to my character but I have seen the film and it does not come in the way of the story. So, it is okay with me," Bipasha says.

She is also playing a very interesting role in Pankh, where she is not a real character but come as the imagination or the alter-ego of the protagonist. The actress has already created a buzz with her glamorous images in the movie, which is said to be an another bold avtaar of Bipasha.

"It is not a typical movie. The protagonist is a young man and I am only in the supporting cast but yes it is a very different character. The film deals with many issues including child abuse and gender confusion. It is a heart-warming story and I am happy to be part of it.

"I am a very impulsive person and as an artist it is great that I get to do my bit in a movie, which raises important social issues," says Bipasha.

Bipasha will also be seen in national-award-winning director Rahul Dholakia's Lamhaa, which is based on Kashmir but the actress says despite having the scenic place at the centre of the love-story the film is not an art movie.

"It is commercial film it can not be branded as an art film. It is the story of Kashmiri people, their problems and their challenges and the role is very dear to me," she says.

Bipasha believes as an actor in Bollywood one has to work within set parameters. "You try to do your best in the set parameters. The limitations are too many because as an actor it is tough to go without the support of audiences," she says.

The actress, who is a fitness freak in real life, is playing the character of a gym-instructor in Ajay Devgan starrer All the Best. "I am a gym-instructor and the wife of Ajay's character in the movie. It is an out-and-out comedy. I laughed my heart out while shooting," she says about the Rohit Shetty-directed movie, which also stars Sanjay Dutt, Fardeen Khan and Mugdha Godse among others.

Bipasha will also be seen in Priyadarshan's yet-to-be- titled movie but she says it is not a comedy but a issue-based story.

Mika song video from Quick Gun Murugun

Mika
With critics all around giving a thumbs up to this Tamil Cowboy we couldn't resist sharing this hilarious video with you again. Read the Quick Gun Murugun Review.

Mind it! Quick Gun Murugun, the spoofy western from the south is loaded with wackiest fun and action you could imagine.

The movie picks up every masala from the popular films made in the last few decades, and seasons it with a generous smattering of slapstick comedy conceived by writer Rajesh Devraj and director Shashanka Ghosh, the duo who originally created the Quickgun character for a music channel some 15 years ago.

We can't stop laughing.

Lata to sing for Bengali film

The song will be recorded for the Bengali film "Amar Bhalo Laga Amar Bhalobasha".

"It's anyway an honour that I'll be in a song sung by Lataji. And when I got to know that she is singing in Bengali films after many years, I felt doubly honoured to be cast in that song," said the actress in a statement.

The actress, who earned critical appreciation for her performance in "Pati, Patni Aur Woh", will be seen in "Love Khichdi" with Randeep Hooda.

Salman skips trip to US for fear of detention

Salman Khan
Washington, (ANI): Bollywood star Salman Khan who is scheduled to go to USA early next month reportedly cancelled his visit on Friday.

According to sources Khan decision comes in the wake of the humiliation faced by Shahrukh Khan at Newark Airport. Salman is scheduled to partake in a promotional event of his upcoming movie Wanted besides participating in an auction of his personal paintings to raise funds for charity.

Khan's decision was also propelled by the hard time being given by the US Consulate in Mumbai in approving the visa of his associates, including one of his family members, whom Salman wanted to bring along with on the promotional trip, sources said. Besides Khan, producer Boney Kapoor, Bollywood star Sridevi and Prabhu Deva were also scheduled to attend the promotional event.

Following the Shahrukh Khan episode, which attracted a lot of media publicity both in India and the US, there is a sense of reluctance among local promoters and organisers of Bollywood events to risk inviting stars, sources added.

Khan's decision has put a bug question mark before the promoters and also local organisers in cities like Chicago, Houston and Dallas who have invested a lot of effort and money in organising these events.

I'm not getting married this year: Shilpa Shetty

Shilpa Shetty
Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty is upset over news that she is set to tie the knot with London-based businessman Raj Kundra by the year end. She clarifies that she isn't getting married this year.

"I've said before, I will make an official announcement the day my parents decide on my marriage date and I promise the press will have at least a month to celebrate the announcement. So to set the record straight, no I'm not getting married this year. Yes, I am looking at next year, but date not decided," said Shilpa posted on her blog www.shilpashettylive.com/blog/.

A British newspaper reported Thursday that the actress would be getting married between September and December in Britain after her father, Surendra Shetty, wrote so in an application to an Indian court.

But Shilpa has slammed the news. "I am sick and tired of people calling me to clarify after they've put it as breaking news on some channels and wasted reams of paper on concocted news articles," she said.

Shilpa is also upset over the leakage of the details her father gave to the court to acquire his passport. "My poor dad is already having a tough time every time he has to travel abroad and has to apply for his passport, and as alway it's harrowing enough for him to go back and forth every time for his passport...," she said.

Surendra Shetty's passport was reportedly confiscated after he was charged with threatening a business associate he claimed owed money to his daughter. Since then, he and his wife Sunanda have only been able to travel overseas with the court's permission, which is why he applied for the passport on the alleged pretext of Shilpa's wedding.

"My dad's 67 and ageing, please let the poor man live in peace and dignity, it's annoying. I request the press to report responsibly and not make any baseless assumptions," stated Shipa.

I want to compose music for Bollywood films: Ustad Amjad Ali Khan

Ustad Amjad Ali Khan
New Delhi: He has been the face of sarod across the globe for years, created new ragas and collaborated with international orchestras, but now music legend Ustad Amjad Ali Khan says he would love to create tunes for Bollywood movies as well.

"I would love to compose music for a Bollywood film. There haven't been any talks as of now, but that's something I am open to and willing to do," Khan told IANS in an interview here.

He however denies reports that acting in films is on his wish list.

"I read articles saying that I wanted to act in a film. That is completely untrue... all I had said was that I am open if someone wants me to be in a documentary where I am not required to be anyone else. But I don't want to act in a full-on film... I was clear," he said.

The legendary musician is still smitten with the melody of old Hindi movie songs and believes film music these days focuses on fast-paced dance numbers.

"The songs of the 1960s and 70s appeal even today because of the melody they had... With due respect to all the talented music directors, the songs today lack melody and the emphasis is more on fast tempo and dance numbers because of the change in values. That's why I feel old music is still a favourite among many," Khan said.

Khan, a Padma Vibhushan awardee, was only six when he gave his first sarod recital. There are not many countries he hasn't travelled to with his sarod. The maestro is happy that youngsters are still interested in pursuing a career in classical music, but stressed that there were no "shortcuts" in the field.

"There are a lot of young talented classical musicians today, so I can say that the future of Indian classical music is very bright. But one has to realise that there are no short cuts in this form of music. One has to struggle a lot to gain knowledge," Khan said.

"Classical music is like entering a dark tunnel with the hope of sun rays some day. It is a long journey which needs patience, peace and serenity," he added.

Married to Subhalakshmi, a Bharatnatyam danseuse, Khan has two sons, Ayaan and Amaan, who are carrying their father's legacy to the next generation of classical musicians.

"They are very hardworking... Both have different styles of playing the sarod. I am glad they receive appreciation, love and blessings from people all over the world. They are on the right track and I am happy that they are so dedicated," he said of his sons.

The maestro recently collaborated with Grammy nominee and Iraqi Oud player Rahim Alhaj for an album called "Ancient Sounds", which released in the US in June and is set for an Indian release in two months.

The collaboration brings together the musical heritage of their respective ancient cultures in a contemporary way.

"All tracks are written and composed by me, except the fifth one. The album, which also has influences of percussion, is sublime, powerful and passionate," said the 63-year-old.

The veteran was part of the Indian Independence Day celebrations in Sydney and Perth and paid a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi through his music.

"I started the evening with two of Mahatma Gandhi's favourite songs - 'Vaishnav janato' and 'Ram Dhun' - followed by traditional ragas. Sarod is not very popular in Australia unlike Europe and the US; so I want to do more shows there," he said.

"I agree that sarod needs some impetus and popularity among people. I'm trying that it becomes as popular as the guitar and violin.

"We are doing more and more shows so that people come to know about this stringed instrument because I know one thing for sure, if anyone listens to sarod once, then he gets completely attracted to it," Khan said.

I would love to do more Bengali films: Bipasha Basu

Bipasha Basu
She is known for her bold image in Bollywood, but dusky beauty Bipasha Basu will now be seen in a slew of non-commercial films like the Bengali 'Shob Charitro Kalponik', 'Pankh' and 'Lamhaa'. She insists she is not making any special attempts to change her image and would love to do more Bengali films if they are interesting.

'I like to do films that are entertainers, glamorous, fun, action and definitely realistic. There is no effort that I am putting towards an image change with non-commercial films. I just feel that in the Hindi film industry, where you look in a particular manner, people consider your USP as something and you get a little typecast,' Bipasha told IANS in a telephone interview from Mumbai.

'But I'm not trying to break any typecast. It's just that within the given limitations, I'm trying to push and taste everything a little bit,' she added.

Bipasha plays a Kashmiri girl in director Rahul Dholakia's 'Lamhaa', has a supporting role in arthouse film 'Pankh'' and in her just released Bengali film debut she plays a typical sari-wearing Bengali woman.

Asked if 'Shob Charitro...' marks her entry into regional cinema, she said: 'I don't like to do films where I don't understand the language; so I don't know about other regional films. I tried doing a Telugu film (2002) and a guest appearance in a Tamil movie (2005), but it was the toughest thing I've ever done.

'But Bengali films...for sure because I know the language... I'd love it if there are some interesting films or a filmmaker who would love to make one...they are more than welcome to approach me and I'd love to do it,' she added.

Produced by Big Pictures, 'Shob Charitro...' has been written and directed by Rituparno Ghosh and also stars Prasenjit, Jisshu Sengupta, Pauli Dam and Sohag Sen.

The film shows the journey of Bipasha's character into the life of her late poet husband through his poetry.

'Shob Charitro...' was also screened in the Panorama Section of the 2009 Durban Film Festival and marketed at the 62nd Cannes International Film Festival.

Though it was her first Bengali venture, the 30-year-old didn't find any difficulties essaying the role.

'Ritu-da asked me to get into the typical Bengali woman mode for the character with the sari-and-blouse and body language, etc... it was not at all difficult for me as I have grown up watching my mother like that.

'For the language, it was very easy because it's definitely the Bengali I speak at home and understand. Apart from that there is also a lot of English in the film as my character speaks both,' added Bipasha, who became an overnight sensation in Bollywood with the 2003 hit 'Jism'.

Bipasha was all praise for the director.

'Ritu-da's films work on various levels and not just one level. When he narrated the script to me, I was really curious as to how he plans to do it because it sounded really tough. But when we shot the film and I actually performed, it was really effortless.

'He guides you well and the whole film flows and tells you a beautiful story of romance, realism, marriage and all kinds of emotions like problems with your partner and when you fall in love... and he uses poetry as a very strong tool in it,' she explained.

'Shob Charitro...', Bipasha says, isn't a commercial entertainer.

'It is very deep and very beautiful. It was very different for me too but I truly liked it and enjoyed the process of making this film,' said the actress.

Apart from 'Lamha' and 'Pankh', Bipasha will also be seen in 'All The Best', a comic entertainer.

“I would love to work with Ranbir” –Kulraaj eyeing the Kapoor Family

Rishi Kapoor
Mastang Kulraaj is gearing for her grand entry in Bollywood with two out-and-out comedy films releasing this year. She is playing a PRO to Rishi Kapoor in ‘Chintuji’ and a stunning cop in ‘Mastang Mama’. She gets candid in an interview and shares her experience of doing the film.

Tell us about the film?

Rishi Kapoor is playing himself in the film. He is an actor who wants to contest elections. I am his PRO who helps him go about in politics. It’s an comedy of errors.

Did you enjoy PRing Chintujee?

Absolutely he’s a lovely person. He encourages new people a lot. He is thorough professional, because being a senior guy he can getaway by many things, but he would never be untoward.

Would you like to work with junior Kapoor?

I loved working with Rishida, I would love to work with Neetuji, as I am very fond of her and why not Ranbir.

What is your relationship with your PR?

It’s a very comfortable relationship, though the purpose is business.

Central character of the film is Chintuji, so why do you think it is the right film for you to begin with?

As a woman lead I am the only one, so I am given due credit to what I needed for the character. Chintuji and I have worked in sync for this film.

Tell us about Mastang Mama

It’s directed by Nikhil Panchamiya. It is a comedy film opposite Ruslaan Mustaq where I am playing a Cop.

You did comedy drama in the serial Kareena Kareena, and then Chintuji and Mastang Mama are again comedy film, so are you consciously doing comedy?

No it’s by chance. My forthcoming film about which I can’t talk now is a hardcore serious film. So it is not that I only want to do comedy.

Have you quit television?

I have not quit television; but we can say I have shifted my focus, as of now. I don’t mind doing TV if I get something really interesting.

In Chintuji you worked with veteran Rishida and in Mastang Mama you worked with new generation actor, so how different is the experience?

If you are working with a senior actor, you tend to look up-to him for learning, but you never know you can also learn from a newcomer, as they have their unique style of working. So as far as learning is concerned, you learn differently from different people.

Shreya to walk the red carpet at Toronto film fest

Shreya
The posh Toronto International Film Festival, which opens on September 10, has a unique lineup of Indian films this year. The two Bollywood entries are Ashutosh Gowariker’s What’s Your Raashee, and first time director Anurag Singh’s Dil Bole Hadippa. Both share a common trait. They’re both female-centric products from a film industry notorious for male domination.

And now Dilip Mehta; brother of Deepa Mehta, has just been selected for the Toronto Film Festival. He has been selected in the prestigious Gala section that opens the festival, where Jon Amiel’s Creation a biopic on Charles Darwin is being premiered.

Dilip who has earlier made a much-acclaimed documentary on Indian widows is singularly kicked by the honour. “The Toronto International Film Festival is, after Cannes, undoubtedly the most significant festival worldwide. To have one’s film participate in it is glory enough, but to have a Gala screening, and a world premiere is mind-blowing.”

This was the very section where Dilip’s sister Deepa’s elegiac Water had been premiered in Toronto, two years ago.

Dilip’s film is in a different mood space. “For 34 years I have covered death, misfortune, war, plagues and other human tragedies for Time, Newsweek, National Geographic and other such major journals. I entered the world of cinema with The Forgotten Woman, a hard documentary to portray the reality of the widows of India. Similarly, Cooking With Stella, also looks at a classic Indian tragedy, that of servants and employers but without wanting to give a lecture on morality.”

Cooking With Stella was short listed for the Opening Gala of the Toronto festival, along with Creation.

Says Dilip, “For me as first-time feature director, this was such a tremendous high to have our film in the company of such an amazing film. Creation nipped us all in the post, but we were right up there. TIFF selected Cooking With Stella for a Gala screening for our world premiere on September 16.”

Seema Biswas and Shreya Saran will be there, gracing the red carpet. Enthuses Dilip, “The numbers are daunting. Approximately 3000 plus films are submitted for TIFF, which along with Cannes is the most significant film festival in the world today. Of these 350- plus are selected for the Festival of which 15 or so have the distinction of a Gala screening at the amazing Roy Thomson Hall.”

Rakhi Sawant or Shanno Amritsari!

Rakhi Sawant
Mumbai: Rakhi is back on big screen with her new avatar in Dil Bole Haddipa. Shanno Amritsari would a treat as well.

Rakhi is obviously happy about the role, she says “It’s a major role. Lekin mujhe

pataa nahin kitna mera role rakha hai ya nahin rakha hai. Maine bharpur kaam kiya hai. Mere bharpur scenes hai. Now let’s see how much of my role is finally visible on screen when the film releases.

She adds “I shot for four months with them. Along with three songs I’ve 5-6 scenes. I play Shanno Amritsari, the nautankiwali. So I’ve been given the maximum number of songs. I don’t know how much of it will remain.”

Item girl Sherlyn Chopra is also there along with bombshell Rakhi Sawant.

Dil Bole Hadippa would be releasing in October. It star slimmed down Rani Mukherji and muscular Shahid Kapoor.

Diana Pinto : Miss India-America’s Mangalore Roots

Diana Pinto
Just when Mangaloreans are celebrating Mangalore girl Freida Pinto making us proud going places after “Slum Dog Millionnaire” winning accolades globally, there is one more girl with Mangalore roots Diana Pinto who has been creating ripples in the glamour world in the international arena. Diana was recently crowned Miss India America 2009 in the Jinder’s 18th Annual Miss India America Pageant on August 7, 2009 in a glittering ceremony held at The Hilton Hotel, Long Beach, which was attended by a galaxy of tinsel and tube world stars of Hollywood and Bollywood. Diana’s success is a welcome respite for Mangaloreans who have been in the news recently for all wrong reasons. Diana was declared winner from among 14 contestants who were vying for the prestigious crown. To her own surprise Diana also walked away with the coveted JINmodels.com Miss Photogenic award.

It was a quiet journey for this Mumbai girl to sizzle in a big stage and emerge winner amidst stiff competition. Her traditional upbringing and clean habits and values imbibed in early stages of life helped her to make a difference to her life. “It is the small habits and values that we imbibe early in life that actually define us as adults and make us different from one another. These little values were taught to me by my mother that helped me shape my future and to achieve whatever little I could achieve. From my father I have learnt that "We fear not because we are inadequate, but because we are powerful beyond measure. This has greatly helped me realize my potential and minimize my negativities”, she told Daijiworld.com in an email interview.

Glitter and glamour is not new to Diana who had earlier participated in Miss Asia USA pageant before her winning this title. She made it to the top ten in that contest and that experience proved to be a great boon for Diana in coming out with flying colours in the Miss India America 2009 contest. “Meeting and interacting with lot of contestants from different countries boosted my morale and enhanced my confidence levels. That experience came in handy in this contest”, she says.

Diana though born and brought up in Mumbai traces her roots to Mangalore as her parents hail from this coastal city. Her father Joseph Pinto hails Urwa, Mangalore and mother Irene Pinto is from Moodbidri. Both Joseph and Irene work for Bank of Baroda as Managers and are settled in Mumbai. Despite a hectic schedule Pinto family visits Mangalore every year to visit family and friends. It is these visits that gave Diana a glimpse of Mangalore, its scenic beauty, the serene atmosphere and its distinct culture and she says these vivid memories are still fresh in her mind. Given a chance she says she would have loved to make an annual trip to Mangalore. Her parents are unswerving about their roots and want their children to Diana and her younger brother Brian to keep rooted to their families back in Mangalore. Their reaction on winning the pageant “we had no doubt you would win and make us proud. But remember, no matter how high you soar, don’t forget your roots and where you belong to”, is just in tune with their mental fortitude to be grounded to their moors.

Diana says she still misses her annual trips to this coastal belt where her grandparents (mother's parents) and her mother’s brother and sister and their family members live there. Diana had left for America a few years back to complete her Post Graduation in the University of Southern California and has been working there as a Physical Therapist after completing her studies. But she wants to be back to where she belongs and on coming to India she aspires to be a part of the Indian Sports Association. Being a sports person (she was a state level volleyball player in India) it is natural that she has channelised her interests and career in the same line. “I hope to bring about some change in the way sports recruitments are being carried out in the country. I also pray that I can contribute to bringing talented athletes/ sportspersons to the forefront, and help them represent our country at international levels”, she elaborates.

Success always does not come without hard work and grooming. Being an athlete as been a great boon to Diana who says she has been able to scale the ladder of success because of her strong foundation in early childhood. “I do believe that being an athlete and a Physical Therapist has helped me immensely. I work hard for everything I believe in. If I had not won I would not have behaved like a sore loser. I would rather try harder next time and bring the trophy home rather than brooding. Being an athlete just helps you to become a strong individual who never calls it quit and strives to achieve what he wants the most! At the same time, being a Physical Therapist makes me realize my boundaries. I realize that though I need to work hard I also need to fine tune my body like a machine. I believe it is a delicate balancing act and it has shaped my outlook & thoughts”, she reasons.

Having participated in Miss Asia USA pageant earlier Diana was bent upon giving her best go at this pageant. The event organizers had asked aspiring contestants to send applications and photographs last year. The only criteria required was the contestant had to be of Indian origin and had to be less than 29 years of age. Diana was directly short listed for the semifinals after she sent her application and her real preparation for it began just then. As a working woman she had very little time at her disposal to prepare seriously for the pageant. She had to do everything on her own. She purchased her gowns online at discounts. “Participating in pageants is quite an expensive proposition in India or America. One has to put in a great deal of money to buy outfits and pay for hairdressers/make up artistes. It is sensible to try and cut costs as much as possible so that one does not end up being broke at the end of it””, she states.

The beauty pageant comprised traditional wear round, an evening wear round and the talent round. No marks were awarded for the talent round and it provided an opportunity for the contestants to showcase their talents. For the talent round Diana presented the Lavani dance, a form of dance and music that deals with a variety of issues such as religion, society, politics, romance etc. She had asked her mother to send her the Navvari Saree required for the Lavani dance. Dressed in the red saree she danced to the tunes of the folk dance form much to the delight of the assembled gathering. She says she rehearsed the dance 5 hours before the actual pageant began. Costume was not a factor at all “as I had the gowns, the traditional saree and everything ready with me. All I had to do was to go on stage and perform”.

The actual pageant lasted only 3 days starting from August 5 and the finals were held on August 7. The training programme included tips to walk on ramp and talk with the judges and give interviews to T V channels and also to conduct oneself with poise, dignity and confidence on stage. While one not sure what the judges look for in the contestants she says “I believe every beauty pageant looks for a combination of grace, personality and wittiness among the contestants that is finally counted”.

While every participating contestant is endowed with these qualities one may wonder what might have titled the crown in her favour. She explains: “In the final rounds we were asked a question and I gave an honest reply. When they asked how I would promote volunteerism I said “charity begins at home. So I would volunteer myself for a charitable cause of my choice which is a best way of promoting volunteerism among others. I would also drag my friends and loves ones to help me for such a noble cause”.

She says she never felt threatened or intimidated by other younger contestants. All the contestants in her category were younger than her. “I never felt threatened by them. In fact being older gave me that extra edge over other raw contestants. I was cool as a cucumber and was least perturbed about the contest. I did not put myself under pressure and that worked. If I was younger may be I would have lost the crown unable to handle the pressure that comes with it”, she states.

It was her confidence which finally helped her clinch the title as she felt she had given everything that night. But she was surprised to be crowned Miss Photogenic. “Surrounded by so many good looking women it seemed like an absolute impossibility to win the Miss Photogenic title. But I did it”, she replies confidently.

Surprisingly Diana does not have anyone as role models as she feels having any one as role model is like trying to copy some one else “ I’d rather be myself – and maybe become an idol for others”, is her prompt response to a question on who her role model is.

As for fitness she exercises when she finds time which she hardly finds considering the hectic schedule she has. The fitness mantra for her is to cook at home and practice healthy eating habits. “I exercise as and when I find time - I prefer to cook at home and I eat outside only when I am bored of my own cooking. I think the secret to good health is 90% of a good balanced diet and 10% of proper attitude & exercise”.

The future of course looks bright for this young lass who is bent upon using her success for doing something for the betterment of the society. And does she foresee any chances of getting into Bollywood? “There are a lot of opportunities out there for anyone who wants to go out and grab them! I am not sure about Bollywood - and I will cross that bridge when I come to it”.

With success sitting pretty on her delicate shoulders Diana Pinto is sure to go places. One more bright face with strong Mangalore roots is sure to shine like a twinkling star in the international arena.
