"I have a space for a National Award in my library" - Shahrukh Khan
"We are all together in this. I have the support of my friends. Hopefully it will get resolved without any of us having to do anything untowardly," said Shahrukh Khan about the continued tension created by political groups on the release of My Name Is Khan. "It is not about gloating over being a brave person or a coward or anything. It is just a basic normal stance that I have and that's what I would like it to remain, Inshallah," Khan added while addressing the media at a Press Conference at the majestic Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi today prior to the world premiere of My Name Is Khan. Also present at the occasion were Kajol, Karan Johar and Fox Star Studios CEO Vijay Singh.
On being asked why Abu Dhabi was chosen as the venue for the world premiere of MNIK, Vijay Singh said, "Middle East's revenue contribution is 25% of the international revenues. This is a very important market for us. The reason why we are doing our world Premiere here is because of the theme of the film, the importance of Abu Dhabi and this region we believe has a lot of potential."
Shahrukh has been very active on Twitter and has a massive following. It is amazing how foreigners who don't even understand Hindi but yet they love him so much. What does he have to tell such fans? "I asked some people since you don't understand the language how come you like Indian films, especially my friends in Germany where we are headed tonight. A wonderfully beautiful lady I was chatting with in the night the other day said we have a button for everything for cars, escalators, for toasters, for microwaves but we didn't have a button for crying and your films provide us a button for crying. All the guys who write to me on twitter, I'd say I love you."
On being asked as a producer what was the contribution Karan Johar was expecting from the lucrative Mumbai territory, Karan simply said, "Main bas dil se filmen banata hoon percentage agar mujhe pata chal jaaye to main kuch aur hota." Vijay Singh set the things in perspective by saying, "My Name Is Khan is going to be the widest release that any Bollywood film has had. A typical big Bollywood film comes with 350 prints in the international market. We are releasing 500-600 prints. The question of what is Mumbai's contribution is not important. This film is being released over a period of 4-5 months across the world in a phased manner. We are releasing in 40 countries in the first phase and another 25 in phase two."
Shahrukh was asked if he was expecting a National Award for this film and he said, "Acting is a higher spiritual experience for me. I would like to believe Khan has been a higher spiritual experience. Whether I get any award for this or not I think I will be evolved and rewarded anyways in my heart, mind and soul. I have a space in my library for a National Award. And I promise you before I finish I'll keep one there or steal one."
On the final note let's find out what Shahrukh had to say to everyone who has been trying to cash in on the present controversy: "I hope everything turns out well. I live on hope. And better sense prevails for everyone and hopefully the film will release and lots of people will watch it and everyone will like it."
