Dil Bole Hadippa - Music Review

Dil Bole Hadippa
What kind of music should a movie have which has a game like cricket as a main theme and vibrant Punjab as its background? Dil Bole Hadippa, the next offering from Yashraj Films, is one such movie and the music album with all Punjabi feel and fervor, but it has nothing much to do with cricket. It's music score only has Punjabi songs. Earlier, Yashraj Films used to keep only one or two Punjabi numbers in an album; this time, they have dedicated the whole lot to Punjabi music.

So, to take you to Punjab’s lehlahatey sarson ke khet music director Pritam Chakraborty has composed four songs. He is now the master in creating rustic tunes, and with movies like ‘Singh Is Kinng’ and ‘Love Aaj Kal’ he owes his success mostly to zippy Punjabi tracks. The mast lyrics for the songs are by Jaideep Sahani and the guest composers are Joshilay from UK.

Hadippa
Who else to sing the title song than Pritam’s favourite, Mika Singh? ‘Hadippa’ impresses you with its bindaas Punjabi lyrics like Fikar Kare Fukrein and Chewing Gum Hai Chabbi Ja but the music fails to evoke excitement. The word ‘Hadippa’ means exhilaration and the song lacks that zeal. However, the remix track by DJ Sandeep, crooned by power-packed duo Mika and Sunidhi Chauhan, sounds better than the original.

Discowale Khisko
Chak De Doliye! The song starts with Punjabi disco beats and sets your mood right. Sung energetically by KK, Sunidhi Chauhan and Rana M, the song with its beats will rule the disc consoles. The talented singer Master Salim gets to wield the microphone for the remix version of the song by Abhijit Vaghani and his nasal twang gives a traditional feel to the song. Indeed a chartbuster and the best in the album.

Ishq Hi Rab Hai
After the peppy numbers you get to hear a song like Ishq Hi Rab Hai which is similar to Tujh Me Rab Dikhta Hai. The song begins mellifluously and Shreya Ghosal takes the lead behind the mike while Sonu Nigam, just apt for a song like this, chips in the edgeways. The song bears the stamp of Yashraj Films.

Bhangra Bistar
The desi pop number with style, Bhangra Bistar is one of the best tracks of the album, rendered by the versatile singers, Hard Kaur, Sunidhi Chauhan and Alisha Chinoy. Do we need to say anything else about the track? Bhangra Pa Le.

Gym Shim
If you are not motivated enough to go to gym, just listen to this track by the UK-based band ‘Joshilay’. The josh-filled song is high on beats and energy level, just like the others songs of the album.

This fully-loaded Punjabi album aims to celebrate life with its music but falls short of expectations. The songs are doused in Punjabi flavour and tadka. ‘Dil Bole Hadippa’ has its Punjabi moments but slightly disappoints us as the album lacks any memorable track. Generally, a Yashraj film has one or two that stir our hearts and we love to hear those songs in repeat mode.

Overall, Dil Bole ‘Hadippa’ is no great shakes.

Rating:5/10
