Box Office: Quick Gun Murugan, Wanted vs DBH clash preview

quick gun murugan
Quick Gun Murugan the offbeat South Indian themed dubbed film had a decent amount of success this week at the national box office.

Releasing on around 200 prints, and collecting around 4 crores, the paltry budget Quick Gun has registered 15-30% in Bombay multiplexes for the week, weak for a normal release but not too bad in midst of many has beens running this week. In Chennai, expectedly collections were better registering in the 60%+ range. While the North was poor.

Kaminey has slowed bits in smaller centers but is holding well in centers like Pune and Bangalore where it's still registering 50-60% occupancies.

Life Partner is holding steadier in week 3, though on the lower side of Kaminey.

Tamil Kanthaswamy is stable in Chennai. Magadheera, Mallana and Josh are leading in Telugu this week. Sab Charitra Kalponik is leading Bengali release at the box office in West Bengal.

The next major clash in Bollywood will be Salman Khan starrer Wanted with Yash Raj's Dil Bole Hadipaa. Though the latter features shahid Kapoor, that film is more a Rani Mukherji vehicle with YRF and Aditya Chopra stamp. YRF and Aditya Chopra of course haven't had a real grosser without Shahrukh Khan in a long time. In the case of Wanted, it is Salman Khan here who is in desperate need of a hit. But Wanted has also been in making for a long time and the producer Boney Kapoor has been ordered injunctions on account of failed cheques to his financers. Though it should also be pointed out that Boney Kapoor's film No Entry too had financial problems before its release, but after release, that film became one of the biggest hits of 2005.

Both films are high profile releases during the Ramadan period and it will be interesting to see if either or both can break the box office cycle.
