Review of Movie Kaminey: Haste Makes 'Shahid Kapoor's Chest' Waste

kaminey review
If someone says…kaminey is all about a guitar, and if you happened to be a Jim Morrison fan, then don't rush to the multiplex with a view in your mind of hearing some beautifully crafted guitar music pieces. If you do…then you will be disappointed. Because movie is not at all about music on guitar rather it is about diverse uses of a guitar, booze, bad guys, murders, corruption and dreams of a good looking bad guy.

So…movie starts with great expectations and a dialogue…"jindagi kutti chiz hai aur isko jine ke liye banna padta hai… Kaminey"…dhan-ta-na.

Guddu and Charlie (suitable names for twins' characters as if father knew former will be seedha-saada guy and later one clever chap) are brothers with same faces and different deformities. One is behind a girl [sister of a local don…oops…politician] and the other behind money. Difference in intensity of desire is…former somewhat confused-but had great moments with girl and makes her pregnant- and later one wants money at the cost of his morality.

For twists in story…there are three sets of villains who use different languages. So if you want to fully understand this movie you need to know at least 4 or 5 languages. One set speaks in Bengali, other one in Marathi and still the last one uses some African language…I think. Apart from that you need to be smart enough to decipher dialogues of Guddu and Charlie because one stammers and one pronounces 'sa' as 'fa'.

Now don't rush to language learning centers or speech decoding centers (if they exist) because director is smart enough to tell audience what these guys want to say. Converting simple situations into complex and worth understanding scenes is perhaps the best quality of director Vishal B. And this makes this cliché working.

Flow is present in the movie but melodrama comes in between making spices in movie-less effective. It would have been a cult story with backdrop of twin brothers if melodrama were avoided and flow of situations were 'Vishal B kind' viz simple yet complex.

Some situations in movie makes you really astonished- like when Guddu and Charlie meet for the first time, after separation, in the train… a really well crafted screenplay. However, some scenes might make you yawn-like complete scene of murder of Charli's friend. (Work hard Amol…acting is not everyone's cup of wine).

Also, mind-change of bad-one Shahid is not spontaneous but it just happens like a miracle. Our director was hustling perhaps. Now I know how Vishal B. completes a movie in short time. Give it time dear…haste makes even Shahid Kapoor a waste.

Heroine in the movie wants to get married as soon as possible so she convinced her guy to make-out without protection…smart girl…eh. That's like sister of a local don. Interesting fact is that the guy distributes contraceptive devices in sporting houses but forgets to keep one for his safety…poor smart chap.

Acting-wise…actors really worked hard especially our hero. Piggy chops is still struggling to sharpen her acting skills. One humble advice…learn something from your hero's ex Priyanka ... Bebo was great in Onkara.

So…flaws in the movie are absence of real strong characters and melodrama. Strong point is acting of hunk Shahid K and yes diverse uses of a guitar. If you want to know them… watch it.

Music is average because at last you only remember 'dhan-ta-na'. So…Kaminey is worth one-watch unlike Vishal's last venture Onkara.

I will give 4 to it out of 10.
