Nisha Kothari and Nitin This is the story of a clever little man gone wonky, as they always said he would. Agyaat (Adavi in Telugu) is thriller-horror, with low budget short film kind of background music, very few people in the cast..one more annoying than the other, two item-ish songs, one jimmy jib in the jungle. Why a maker with two decades in the industry has to make this, is the real agyaat-the unknown.

A film crew lands on a jungle island to shoot, with a Tamil producer going 'Ayyo da' five hundred times in a scene, a tantrum-throwing Sharman Kapoor 'the star' flexing his six packs and harassing his assistant, a stunt master who hates him, the director who keeps writing dialogues on the set, the cinematographer with an unlit cigarette constantly in his mouth, two assistants, Sujal who's in love with the leading lady Asha and Sameera who's in love with Sujal. And a jungle man, Setu. Who's the first to get killed when they go camping and see a blinding flash in the sky and hear weird noises.

There are some other unexplained things apart from the mystery killer. One, where is the rest of the crew who appear if shooting and disappear if not, suddenly. The supposedly predatory…groans, you could say, are not immediately and easily distinguished from the gimmicky and crude 'scary' background noise that is provided throughout the movie. There is one moment, just one, when its sudden and typical thriller stuff, but that's one-where Sameera asks the assistant for water and everyone is scared out of their wits thinking it's the monster. This assistant has his moments, from being kicked around by Sharman and then doing some impromptu Puja bang in the middle of the jungle with all the noise ringing in your ears.

As irritating as all the characters are, hamming as much as they can, the group dynamics once the killing starts is interesting for a bit. They start killing themselves and each other in desperation. All your hopes that this is some Indianized version of Predator is gone. Why not? Nitin Reddy can play Arnold. Stop laughing.

NitinVarma threatens us with a sequel, promising to reveal the monstrosity in Agyaat-2. Yeah, it's not revealed here, so don't hold your breath. Then it all clicks. Not movie-wise, but maker-wise; the man is getting a kick out of this. This is his own ride, nothing really to do with poor audiences and poorer producers. So be it. If you cut the background score and remove the jimmy jib, then you can shoot this script in your local park with a couple of your friends. Except you won't cast Nisha alias Priyanka Kothari nor gain voyeuristic pleasure by shooting her exercise-because you'll be afraid people will think its one of those movies.

It's actually not a bad watch if its on the telly one rainy afternoon where there's nothing else on and nothing else to do. Even then, you'll skip parts, mute, and not pay attention half the time. It's one of THOSE movies. The ones that try hard with a mJustify Fullillion gimmicks but fail to entertain.
